Common Questions About Coaching
Explore how story-based life coaching supports your child’s confidence, mindset, and emotional well-being.
Mindset skills are the mental and emotional tools that help children navigate challenges, build resilience, and develop confidence. These skills work with how the brain naturally learns and grows, helping children develop new thought patterns and responses that serve them throughout life.
Adventures in Wisdom is a globally recognized, research-based curriculum that’s been successfully used worldwide to help children develop essential mindset skills. The program has a proven track record of helping kids build confidence, resilience, and emotional intelligence through engaging, story-based methods.
Story-based coaching uses carefully chosen stories and characters that children can relate to, helping them learn important mindset skills through discussion and activities. Children naturally connect with stories, so we use this to explore feelings, practice problem-solving, and develop these essential skills in a way that feels fun and engaging rather than like a lesson.
This coaching is designed for children ages 6-12 who would benefit from building confidence, emotional resilience, and coping skills. Whether your child is naturally shy, anxious, a perfectionist, struggling with challenges, or ready to work on goal setting and personal growth, the program meets them where they are.
Coaching is results-driven and forward-focused – we teach practical skills and strategies your child can use right now to build confidence, manage emotions, and handle challenges. While counselling focuses on processing past experiences and diagnosing underlying issues, coaching focuses on building tools for the future. I don’t provide diagnosis or therapy – I help children develop the mindset skills they need to thrive.
Yes. Don’t worry – we’re a team (you, me, and your child), and we’ll work together to support, guide, and nurture your child’s growth, helping them build the skills they need to thrive. Every child develops at their own pace, and that’s completely normal. Your child is exactly where they need to be right now, and we’ll work from there. Development isn’t linear – there will be ups and downs, and that’s all part of the process. What matters is that we’re supporting them through it all.
It’s completely okay! In group sessions, children can just listen – they’re still learning even without speaking. I never force participation. We spend our first session getting to know each other and building trust, which helps shy children feel more comfortable over time. If a child says they don’t want to participate, I’ll have a conversation with parents to understand what’s behind their reluctance so we can address it together.
Virtual coaching works beautifully with children this age! The interactive stories, activities, and discussions translate perfectly to online sessions. Children are naturally comfortable with technology, and the virtual format often helps shy children feel more at ease participating from their own space.
Every child is unique, so timelines vary, but most parents start noticing small shifts within the first few weeks – maybe their child tries something new or handles a disappointment differently. The skills build over time, so the changes become more noticeable as we continue working together.
You’ll notice your child becoming more willing to engage – with new activities, other kids, even their own mistakes. They start stepping outside their comfort zone bit by bit, including how they talk to themselves. At home, you might find they’re more cooperative with directions and less likely to push back. The meltdowns often become less frequent and less intense.
Know More About Coach Melanie
Learn more about my experience, approach, and what makes this work so meaningful.
I bring 18 years of teaching experience to my coaching, with most of that time spent in primary classrooms where I developed a deep understanding of how young children learn and grow. I’m a certified Adventures in Wisdom coach, specializing in story-based life coaching that builds essential mindset skills in children.
After 18 years of seeing children struggle with self-doubt and limiting beliefs, I knew there had to be a better way to help them build inner strength. Adventures in Wisdom provides a proven, research-based curriculum that works – it gives children practical tools they can use immediately while building lasting confidence from the inside out.
After nearly two decades in the classroom, I noticed that many children were held back not by academics but by self-doubt, fear of failure, or peer pressure. I wanted to support kids in a deeper, more lasting way. Coaching gave me the tools to help them grow from the inside out and now I get to walk alongside them as they discover just how capable and amazing they truly are.
I specialize in working with children ages 6 to 12 — the age where so much of their inner world is being shaped. It’s the perfect time to introduce mindset skills, build self-awareness, and support them in becoming confident, kind, and resilient individuals.
Being a teacher taught me how to connect with children in meaningful ways — to listen, encourage, and guide without judgment. It also showed me that learning isn’t just about academics; it’s about helping kids feel seen, heard, and supported. That’s exactly what I bring into my coaching sessions.
Gentle, supportive, and empowering. I create a safe space where your child feels seen, heard, and encouraged — never judged or pressured. We explore big ideas through stories, questions, and conversations, always moving at a pace that honors your child’s comfort and growth.
Kindness, connection, and curiosity. I believe every child has wisdom within them — my role is to help them access it. I also value integrity and communication, which means I’ll always keep you informed and involved in your child’s journey.
Trust starts with truly listening. I take the time to get to know each child — their interests, their worries, their wins. By showing up consistently and with genuine care, I build a connection that helps them feel safe to open up and grow.
My approach blends 18 years of real classroom experience with the heart of story-based life coaching. I don’t just teach mindset skills — I bring them to life in a way that’s fun, meaningful, and easy for kids to understand. And I work closely with families, so coaching feels like a team effort.

6-session package: $347
Individual Coaching:
5-session package: $497
6-session package: $547
All packages include a complimentary parent follow-up call at completion. For an additional $50, you can add a mid-point parent check-in call to stay connected throughout the process.
Sessions are held once a week, which gives children time to practice their new skills between sessions while maintaining good momentum. Coaching is offered in packages of 5-6 sessions. Group coaching follows a structured curriculum, while individual coaching allows me to personalize the skills we focus on based on your child’s specific needs.
Yes! Individual coaching is available for children ages 6-12. This format allows me to completely personalize the approach to your child’s unique needs and challenges.
Regular coaching sessions are approximately 50 minutes. The first session is shorter (30-45 minutes) as it’s focused on getting to know your child and making them comfortable. This allows me to build rapport without rushing, which is essential for effective coaching.
Group coaching sessions are held virtually. Individual coaching can be either virtual or in-person, depending on your preference. Both formats are equally effective – the coaching methods and results are the same regardless of whether we meet online or face-to-face.
Nothing! Sessions are designed to be engaging and stress-free. I provide all materials and guide the activities. I just ask that children come with an open, curious mindset and willingness to participate. There are no tests, homework, or rigid requirements – just a positive, supportive experience focused on building confidence and skills.
For children who have trouble sitting still or focusing, I encourage fidgets, colouring, or doodling during listening time – as long as they’re still paying attention. Their responsibility is to listen, but I understand they might need something to keep their hands busy. If it becomes too distracting, we’ll adjust the approach.
Since each session builds on the previous one, consistency is important for your child’s progress.
Group Coaching: If your child misses a session, they can join another group working on that same skill – either during the same timeframe or with the next group in their age range.
Individual Coaching: Please provide 48 hours’ notice to reschedule. Sessions rescheduled with less notice will incur an additional fee and must be completed before the next scheduled session.
All packages are non-refundable as they’re designed as a complete learning journey. However, I’m committed to working with families to ensure your child gets the full benefit of their program
